I must admit I've got a bit of "poster's remorse" regarding the BBC blurb here.
I've got some lame excuses about why I didn't do a better job with this, which I'll spare you (ok, I can't resist... Two r/t flights to Europe and back in the course of 9 days was part of the problem.) I tried to be non-partisan, favorably invoking Yahoo competitors like Amazon, Facebook, Google, etc. I was told that the audience would be the "non-techy intelligent layperson." I didn't mean to come off as if I'd invented ubiquitous computing, didn't care about privacy, or .
I'll be more careful next time, and/or correct some of these sins on this blog.
Maybe I'm being too sensitive. Some folks said they liked it. ;-)

Before joining Google, I founded and led Yahoo's advanced development division, which developed new products such as Yahoo! Pipes, and I drove the acquisition of products such as Flickr and MyBlogLog. Previously, I was Co-Founder and CTO of Virage, where I oversaw the technical direction of the company from its founding through its IPO and eventual acquisition by Autonomy.
I've got a bachelor's degree in computer science from the University of Michigan, and a master's degree from the MIT Media Lab and was pursuing my Ph.D. there when I co-founded Virage.

Tin foil hat aside...I think you could have managed your email elusiveness with simply 2 addresses. I mean, would it be a big deal to use the same address for spammers and flame war respondents? Which email address did you use to send that message above?
Dave, one of my regrets is that I didn't have space or time to get into the privacy implications therein.
ABSOLUTELY THE USER NEEDS CONTROL.
Lets make damn sure a user can be anonymous (or even use a different identity) when they choose to...
But... users also ought to be able to unify their identities when they choose to...
It's not about all-or-nothing. Give the users control so they can make informed decisions that serve them.
